A gamer is a video game enthusiast.
It’s also someone who spends many hours playing games, whether on computer or console.
It doesn’t matter what kind of games you play…
But a real gamer will never tell you that you’re one if you say you spend your days on Candy Crush.
Instead, they play online games like Counter-Strike, sometimes single-player games like The Witcher, or MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role-playing games) like World of Warcraft.
So you could also say that a gamer “plays”, and usually does so in a gaming chair.
If you’re more the kind of person who needs images to picture things, watch a few minutes of video.
This is a very well-known gamer in the world playing a game that is also very well-known among gamers: Fortnite.
There are the casuals, who prefer simple games that don’t require too much time investment.
And then there are the hardcore gamers, who prefer complicated games where you have to invest as much as possible to beat your opponents.
As you can see, being a gamer also means being part of a community: the community of gamers.
Finally, those who have made this their full-time job are called e-sport players.
