Why does your gaming chair squeak?

Having a squeaky gaming chair is super annoying, as soon as you move, you concentrate on that noise and it affects your concentration and performance…

It’s anything but pleasant, and having lived through it, I know it used to bother me a lot, especially in the evenings when you don’t need to make much noise.

But did you know that all chairs eventually creak?

Do you have any idea why this happens?

There can be many reasons for a squeaky gaming chair, and I’m going to give you the 5 tips that exist to get rid of this problem!

(Note that these tips also apply to your squeaky office chair).

#1 Tighten screws/bolts

I advise you to tighten all screws and bolts.

Even the ones that don’t seem to be squeaking.

Why should I do this?

Because even the smallest screw or bolt that isn’t properly tightened can cause friction, which means your gaming chair is bound to squeak.

So grab your screwdriver or wrench and tighten as much as you can!

#2 Lubricate bolts/screws/parts

lubricate bolts

The other thing to do is to lubricate all bolts, screws and contact points between parts.

You can also lubricate the piston.

Why do this?

Because rubbing the contact points can lead to squeaking, and by lubricating them, you’ll allow the whole thing to run smoothly and quietly.

So take a lubricant and lubricate the whole thing!

Any lubricant will do, as long as you apply yourself.

You can also go over some stubborn parts several times using a cloth.

#3 Clean parts with a toothbrush

I recommend cleaning the parts of your chair with a toothbrush.

In principle, clean all parts thoroughly, scrubbing thoroughly.

However, make sure you focus on the rusty parts (if you have any).

In most cases, they’re definitely the cause of the squeaking.

If some parts are really rusty and won’t go away, let them sit for several hours in white vinegar.

If you prefer a “harder” method, you can use steel wool instead of a toothbrush…

But not everyone has this at home.

#4 Replace rusty parts

On some parts, despite all your efforts, the rust won’t go away.

In this case, or if you simply don’t want to waste time and trouble, I recommend :

Replace the rusted parts directly with new ones. Everyone has screws and bolts at home, and parts like these are easy to replace.

And since you’re replacing them with new ones, your chances of avoiding squeaking are multiplied!

#5 Change the piston on your gaming chair

If you’ve tried everything but can’t find a solution, there’s a very good chance that the squeaking noise is coming from the gas cylinder/piston.

It’s a very inexpensive part (I recommend you buy a class 4, it’s the best and doesn’t cost more than 10โ‚ฌ).

Next, I’ll let you watch the video, which will tell you in far more detail than a thousand words how to change it.

You’ll see, it’s very simple and only takes a few minutes, and you’ll have a squeak-free gaming chair!
