The Razer Enki X is the little sister of the Razer Enki.

Their aim with this chair is to offer a Razer gaming chair at a more accessible price, to appeal to gamers on a tighter budget.

So, obviously, it’s not as good as the Razer Enki; the X version has no headrest, 2D armrests (4D for the Enki).

The base is steel (aluminum for the Enki) and the tilting mechanism is centered (off-center for the Enki, and just for that, take an Enki instead…).

So, while losing a few assets, you’ll be able to afford a Razer even on a smaller budget.

As you probably already know, Razer’s strong point is to make high-quality, precise and always well-finished objects.

However, the problem with this “entry-level” chair from Razer is its price: is it justified or not at all?

That’s the question I’d like you to answer throughout this test…

The Razer Enki X: For what type of gamer?

Razer

The Razer Enki X has many of the same advantages as the Razer Enki, for example, its velvet upholstery will suit gamers who tend to sweat in summer, but…

Also, and above all, for gamers who want to treat themselves to a nice gaming chair with quality imitation leather and beautiful Razer-style finishes.

This is one of Razer’s great advantages: the designs are very well done, very well finished, and the materials used are of the highest quality.

On the other hand, for the price, I find that if you gain in quality/design, you lose in functionality.

In my ranking comparing the best gaming chairs, I have quite a few gaming chairs that have much more functionality and for a very similar price, which you can see by clicking here.

On the other hand, the designs/finishes of these chairs are good, but since I’ve been reviewing Razer products, I’ve noticed that Razer have that extra “something”.

I’m sure you feel the same way.

So there you have it, I’d recommend it especially if design and finish are a very important part of your choice, because for the functions offered it’s expensive.

As for the rest, I’d say it’s adequate for fairly long gaming sessions – I’d say 3 to 5 hours a day without too many problems – but it won’t be ideal if you play more.

And in terms of body shape, it’s made to suit most people, so if you’re between 1m56.5 and 1m94, it’ll do as long as you don’t weigh more than 136 kg!

Shaped, very dense foam (perfect for durability)

One of the things I’m really adamant about is the quality of the foam.

Because bad foam that collapses after a few months is extremely disappointing and destroys the comfort of a gaming chair.

On the Razer Enki X, fortunately the foam is very dense, which is actually quite common at Razer.

They only offer very dense foam.

For you, this ensures that the foam will always return to its original shape and won’t end up flattened like a pancake after a few months!

In that respect, it’s a good investment.

What’s even nicer is that Razer foams are designed to support your body even better than normal foam.

In fact, Razer’s foams are “shaped” to give you better weight distribution on the seat, and therefore greater comfort.

So it’s not just flat foam, it’s foam that’s been shaped to fit your body.

Cleverly angled side cheeks: 110°

Another great feature of the Razer Enki (Enki, Pro and X) is that the side cheeks, and especially the backrest side cheeks, have been well thought out.

For those wondering what exactly I mean by this, the backrest side cheeks are the edges of your backrest where your shoulders should rest.

Razer has set a 110° angle because it’s one of the angles that offers the best compromise between freedom and support.

Freedom, so that you don’t feel trapped in the chair, and that you keep a good level of comfort while adapting well to your build.

Support, so you can maintain a seated position even after a few hours’ play.

Centered toggle mechanism (basic, not the best)

One of my biggest disappointments with the Razer Enki X is the lack of an off-center tilt mechanism.

In fact, it’s just a centered toggle mechanism.

You’re going to tell me “Yes, but that’s better than having no tilt mechanism at all.”

And yes, that’s true, because the toggle mechanism allows you to “move” and therefore vary the pressure points on your muscles, which is more than necessary.

Because that’s what will keep you sitting longer.

However, an off-center tilt mechanism like the one on the Enki (I’m not talking about the X version here) is infinitely more ergonomic.

And why is that?

Well, because an off-center tilt mechanism offers a knee-level tilt, whereas a centered tilt… Well, it tilts at the center of the chair.

And that has a lot of ergonomic implications, knee-level rocking is better because your feet will always touch the ground when rocking, your hips will be less pulled, and blood circulation in your legs amply improved.

So, yes, I’m quite disappointed, because at this price I’m used to seeing off-center rockers.

The gas piston is of the highest class

And what’s the highest class? 4!

It’s quite common, and I rarely come across chairs with a class 3 actuator, but…

It’s crucial, because it affects both the sturdiness and the climbing power of your chair.

With a class 4 actuator, you can be sure that your Razer Enki X will have no problem going up and down, and you won’t have to put up with the annoying “a-coups” that sometimes happen with class 3 actuators.

Steel frame and steel base

That’s still very good, too.

If we compare it to the Enki, it’s a little less good, because the Enki has an aluminum base, which withstands about 1 ton of pressure.

But a steel base is already satisfactory, as it can withstand several hundred kg of pressure.

Your base won’t break from one day to the next, and I’m not going to take away any stars on that score!

As for the chassis, steel is also very common and that’s what you should look for, because it’s the best compromise between strength and lightness.

This means you’ll have a chair that lasts over time and is easy to move around.

2D armrests

I’m also a little disappointed on this point, because at this price I’ve already seen a lot of chairs with 4D armrests.

And this one only has 2D armrests, for a price that’s just as high.

It’s still not bad, because the two main adjustments are there, i.e. the possibility of :

  • Adjust them from top to bottom, which is a must-have, because it supports your arms, and by supporting your arms, your shoulders will take less of a beating in the long run. It’s also essential to adjust them to the height of your desk (the most ergonomic is a 90° angle between your elbows and the armrests at desk height).
  • Turn them inwards or outwards so that you can always point your armrests in the same direction as your arms. If you have any doubts about the usefulness of this adjustment, look at your arms right now – are they all straight? They can’t be.

On the other hand, you lose the possibility of adjusting their width, which is quite annoying depending on your build.

The ability to move them forward and back is a bit more of a gimmick in my opinion, but still really useful, because once you’ve adjusted the armrests to desk height…

Well, sometimes you’re going to feel a long way from your desk, and the only way to get closer is to move the armrests back.

That won’t be possible, so it’s up to you…

In any case, you have my opinion.

One of the best designs in the world of gaming chairs

On this point, there aren’t many people who can sit at the Razer table and say “I’ve got a more polished design than yours”.

I’ll say it again and again, in addition to their magnificent logo, all the curves of the chair, the play of colors, have been worked out really well.

I love the contrast between the “razer green” and the black, which looks just as good on their website as it does on their gaming chairs…

But also the smooth leather strip that runs the length of the back and seat in the middle of the velvet.

In short, nothing has been left to chance at Razer, and that’s really one of their strong points.

The Razer Enki X has a velvet cover and smooth synthetic leather.

That’s a big plus too, because they do what few gaming chair brands do.

That is, a mix of two materials that are both useful and beautiful.

Let me explain:

  • Velvet, in addition to being present on virtually no chair, is very soft, very pleasant to the touch and BREATHABLE. Which means that in summer, you won’t have your back stuck to the backrest, drenched in sweat.
  • Synthetic leather gives the chair a very premium, high-end, luxury look.

So you’ve got the best of both worlds, appearance and functionality.

The only drawback is that it tends to stain, and unlike a full leatherette chair, a stain is harder to get out.

On the other hand, full imitation often presents the risk of sweating profusely in summer, as it’s not very breathable.

Integrated lumbar cushion, but not adjustable and no headrest

Although optional, I find it rather disappointing to go from a Razer Enki with a memory foam headrest to… nothing.

However, the headrest isn’t compulsory.

It can help you get a neutral neck position, but you can just as easily get it without a cushion.

Basically, it’s not the most important thing.

However, a lumbar cushion that’s built-in, but not adjustable…

That’s more dangerous.

Since some people need more reinforcement, others less, others need it higher or lower depending on their size.

So the fact that it’s not adjustable isn’t great, especially as there are quite a few chairs at these prices with adjustable reinforcements.

Especially as this is one of the most important points in a chair, because your back needs that little curve in the lumbar region.

Without it, or in the wrong place, or too bulky, you’re going to suffer very quickly.

Of course, you can always buy a separate cushion, but that’s okay.

Beautiful finishes/seams

As I said earlier, quality finishing and stitching is clearly Razer’s trademark.

The seams are superbly crafted and exude solidity by being even, neither too tight nor too loose, and thick.

What’s more, everything has been thought out to maintain the premium look of their chair.

Even the imitation leather, for example, shows that it’s been worked to give it that smooth, classy look.

I couldn’t agree more!

Quality 60mm castors

The wheels are pretty basic, but there’s no point in reinventing the wheel anyway (lol)!

They roll well, except on carpets like the Enki.

Dust-wise, I’d say it’s the same thing: it catches a few residues, but doesn’t end up completely covered like some chairs I’ve had.

The Razer Enki X tilts up to 152°

On this side, it’s not the highest inclination there is, for example there are quite a few chairs that go from 165° to 180°, but 152 I think is already very good.

And why is that?

Because you’ll already have more than enough room to find a sitting position that suits you, and what’s more…

This type of tilt allows you to take a break on Twitch and watch a stream while fully reclined!

Little tip: don’t forget a little footrest to feel really good!

Razer Enki X settings

You can easily adjust the backrest tilt using the lever on the right-hand side of your Razer Enki X.

The height of the armrests can be adjusted using the small knob on the outside of each armrest, and the orientation is set by moving each armrest directly.

Then, to raise/lower the chair or block the tilting mechanism, all this is done using the levers on the underside of the seat.

Finally, the large knob on the underside of the seat allows you to adjust the tension of the tilting mechanism. It’s very important to set it correctly (so that it tilts neither too much nor too little according to your weight).

No problems during assembly, it was quick

As with the Razer Iskur or the Razer Enki, the Razer Enki X was very easy to assemble.

This is due in part to the fact that the instructions are very well explained and that some screws are already pre-screwed, so everything is easy.

So it really doesn’t take much time.

Opinions of other Razer Enki X users

I’m now offering you a compilation of other reviews of the Razer Enki X, because having my opinion is good, but having others is even better!

So, without further ado, here’s what the Razer Enki X is praised for:

  • Comfort.
  • Its sturdy, hard-wearing steel base and the chair’s overall quality.
  • The seat is firm, but very comfortable.
  • The overall look, which people really like.

The only negative comments were that the lumbar support could not be adjusted, and was too bulky for some people.

Other gaming chairs to consider

gaming chair razer enki

How could we not include the Razer Enki in a review of the Enki X?

Grossomodo, the chairs are very similar, but the Enki stands head and shoulders above the rest thanks to its 4D armrests, off-center rocking mechanism, memory foam headrest and aluminum base!

The only drawback is that you’ll have to spend a little extra to afford all this.

Read my review of the Razer Enki.

review razer iskur

Then, of course, we have to talk about the Razer Iskur!

Its big advantage is the ADJUSTABLE lumbar cushion, but its biggest flaw is that the tilt mechanism is centered.

However, the armrests are 4D and the headrest is memory foam!

It’s a good choice too, depending on what you’re looking for.

secretlab titan evo 2022.jpg

And finally… Razer’s rival brand, Secretlab.

Here, the headrest is memory foam, the lumbar support is adjustable in height and volume, the armrests are 4D, the headrest is memory foam AND magnetized (it holds without fasteners).

In short, it’s a very good choice, but you’ll have to add a little money.

Are you interested in what Razer has to offer, but don’t have a crazy budget?
