Buying guide: How to choose a Gaming chair for Black Friday?

There are several things you need to look at before buying a gaming chair if you want to get a good deal and value for money.

I’ll give you a quick summary, but if you’d like a more complete list, you can check out my guide to choosing a gaming chair.

Make sure you choose a chair that matches your body shape

The first thing to bear in mind when selecting your gaming chair is to choose one that suits your morphology.

For example, the Vertagear PL6000 won’t be for you if you’re slim or short (although this is subject to preference, as you’ll simply have much more room!).

It’s much better for taller/larger people.

If you’re of average height, you can go for a chair like the F08!

However, if you’re big or tall, you’d better avoid it, as you’ll be too wedged into the chair.

It's essential to choose the right armrests

At the very least, get height-adjustable armrests, so you can adapt them to the height of your desk (90° angle with your elbows).

It’s enormously more comfortable when your elbows are well supported, you’ll be able to make more precise movements, and it’s also easier on your shoulders.

Width-adjustable armrests allow you to adjust them to the width of your shoulders, so you can rest your elbows on the armrests without having to spread or tighten them too much.

There’s also angle adjustment, so you can pull the armrests inwards and follow the direction of your forearms as they point towards the keyboard.

This is a great feature, as no-one picks up a controller with straight arms, or types on the keyboard/uses the mouse with straight arms.

Finally, the 4D armrests add the possibility of adjusting them from front to back, great for tidying up your chair or getting a little closer to your desk (by moving the armrests backwards).

Choosing the right coating

You have many choices.

Leather is durable, high quality, soft, comfortable and breathable, but it’s expensive and needs good care.

Sometimes it’s good quality, but if you choose the wrong one, it can crack.

Otherwise, the material is soft, comfortable and imitates the look of leather, but is low-maintenance, inexpensive and not breathable (will make you sweat in summer).

The fabric, on the other hand, is breathable, inexpensive, high-quality, comfortable and sometimes soft/sometimes not, depending on the fabric. However, its only drawback is that it stains very easily.

If you’re rich, go for leather.

If you don’t care about your chair and just want to enjoy it, go for imitation.

If you’re careful with your objects, you’ll be able to reap the benefits of a fabric gaming chair.

Choose the backrest angle that's right for you

Some chair backrests don’t recline, but I don’t think that’s a problem, as it’s more of a bonus.

You can recline up to 180°, which corresponds to a fully reclined position.

This is only useful if you want to take naps/sleep on your chair.

Otherwise, 135° is just right for watching films and TV series, positioning yourself correctly, reading and taking breaks.

Pay attention to foam density

Here, you’ll need to pay close attention to the density of the foam.

At the very least, I recommend a gaming chair with high-density foam.

That is, you’ll need to look to see if it has a density of at least 28kg/m3 OR one of the following keywords: “High density foam” “Cold foam” “High resilience foam”.

If you see one of the above keywords, it’s good news: you’ll have a high-density foam.

This means that your foam will always return to its basic shape. Whereas low-density foam will eventually collapse and lose all its comfort.
