If proof were needed that the Songmics OBG77BR is on a roll, it’s THE best-seller in the Songmics gaming chair category.
And that’s easily explained by its integrated footrest, which is clearly a game changer if you’re a gamer looking to relax during your games!
Whether it’s its high-density foam, wide seat, padded armrests or integrated footrest…
Everything about the OBG77BR has been designed with relaxation in mind!
Their aim is to produce high-quality products at affordable prices.
So, while they don’t pretend to offer “THE best gaming chair“, they do offer good chairs at a good price.
That’s why they specialize in inexpensive but comfortable gaming chairs.
So you’ll never find a stratospherically-priced gaming chair from them, which is a good thing for any small purse!
And now for the question on everyone’s mind: what’s the OBG77BR worth? Well, I’ll let you follow me all the way through this review if you want the answer to that question!
Sommaire
The great advantage of the OBG77BR being its footrest, I find it perfectly suitable for console gamers.
(And that’s the first time I’ve said that).
Indeed, as you don’t necessarily have a desk and you’re playing in front of a TV, a lambda gaming chair will tend to destroy your back, because you’ll intuitively lean forward.
With the OBG77BR, on the other hand, you have a built-in footrest, so you can easily unfold it and sit on it.
(By tilting the backrest a little and locking it in the position that suits you best).
You’ll be able to play play, while taking care of your back thanks to the lumbar cushion that comes with the chair!
Then, in terms of playing time, I’d say it’s ideal for 2-3 hours.
But of course, thanks to its footrest, this chair is a bit of a hybrid, so you can also use it to watch a movie, a series, live gaming, etc. It’s also possible to use it to sit in the middle of a game.
It’s also possible to use it for PC gaming (and therefore desktop gaming), but for that purpose and to stay in the same price range, I’d go for a songmics RCG13G!
Otherwise, it’s very good value for money, and I’d recommend it for gamers between 1.60 and 1.85 m tall, as long as you don’t weigh more than 150 kg.

The main advantage of the OBG77BR is that, although it’s not very expensive, the foam (on the seat) is high-density.
And that’s one of the most important points to check when buying a gaming chair.
Because if the foam isn’t high-density…
You’ll very quickly end up with a foam that won’t regain its shape and is therefore totally compressed against the seat.
As a result, it won’t be comfortable at all.
That’s why high-density foam is so important.
Secondly, I can understand why they chose to use it only on the seat: given the price, they had to make concessions and leave it out of the backrest.
That’s understandable, because where does almost 80% of your weight rest?
Yes, on the seat!
So it’s not as bad as all that, but I had to point it out.
Well, I looked everywhere, but unfortunately I couldn’t find the exact density of the foam on the seat.
I can only assume that it’s at least 28kg/m3 (which is the minimum to be called “high-density foam”).
But I would have appreciated it if they had specified this in the description!
The OBG77BR is a hybrid between the gaming chair (which usually features bucket seats with pronounced side cheeks for support) and the office chair (with a flat backrest)…
Understandably, it has no side bolsters.
But why not?
Well, since it’s intended to be used with the footrest, that means you’re more likely to use it lying back, with your feet on the footrest, than actually sitting down.
And when you’re reclining backwards, you’ll quickly notice that having a flat backrest is more pleasant than one with side cheeks.
So even though I normally prefer bucket seats, because they provide real support, you have to be logical, and in this case I think a flat backrest is much more appropriate.
It’s also more practical for playing the console, because if you’re lying on the chair, with the ps5 controller in your hands, your elbows are going to take up a lot of space and…
If there were side cheeks, you’d be pretty much stuck.
Whereas when you’re gaming on a PC, your elbows are forward, so they never get in the way.
It’s a bit of a shame there’s no tilt mechanism, but I imagine that’s justified by the addition of the footrest, which must prevent the adoption of a real tilt mechanism.
I say this because I don’t recall ever seeing a gaming chair with an integrated footrest and tilt mechanism.
At the same time, it’s true that when you think about it, it seems rather incompatible or “dangerous”.
Anyway, if you’re here, it’s mainly because you’re interested in the footrest!
As it happens, I really liked it.
It’s very wide, very voluminous and the foam is very comfortable.
When you put your feet on it, the only thing you’ll feel is thick, comfortable foam.
I was a little worried at first that it wouldn’t be very sturdy, since it’s held in place by two bars, but nonsense!
It holds together very well, and even when I pushed on it a little for the purposes of this review, I had no problems whatsoever, and I have to admit that it’s solid.
Secondly, as it’s a telescopic footrest, you can adjust its length to your liking.
This is perfect for adapting it as closely as possible to YOUR current position.
For example, sometimes I’d play lying down with the footrest pulled out as far as it would go, and I liked it, but sometimes I’d get fed up with it, so…
I’d shorten the footrest a little and sit on the chair with my legs bent and my feet on the footrest.
It’s a position that I also find very comfortable and that allows you to vary the different ways of sitting, so I recommend it!
Unfortunately, gas springs are only class 3.
This means it’s less solid, less resistant and has less spring force than a class 4 gas cylinder.
I haven’t seen any problems so far, after all, I’ve only had it a month!
Nevertheless, given the price, it’s quite common in this price range to use class 3 gas springs.
What’s more, the cylinder has been SGS-certified for its solidity and safety, which is good to know.
In other words, it has passed the safety review more than 120,000 times.
So it’s pretty solid and secure, and you’re entitled not to take their word for it…
So here’s the report number if you’d like to do a little digging before you buy: Report No. AJH23293938
Like most gaming chairs, the OBG77BR is made from a steel frame (which is a very good thing).
Steel is not only solid, it’s also light and therefore easy to move around (it’s still a chair, so it’s important that it’s light, as it’s not meant to stay in the same place all the time).
Then there’s the nylon leg, which is the most basic, because there are also metal or aluminum legs that can withstand pressures of up to a ton.
However, in this price range, you’ll never find a metal stand, let alone an aluminum one.
So the OBG77BR is within the norm!
What’s more, I’m not a very heavy person, but I’ve never had a problem with nylon feet, and this one exudes sturdiness too.
Just take a look at the photo to see that they didn’t skimp on the material and that it’s well reinforced.
So, I approve!
That’s a bit of a problem in terms of ergonomics, as you can’t adjust the armrests to suit your posture, since they’re fixed.
That said, in my opinion, the OBG77BR is mainly intended to be used with the footrest in place…
It’s not as bad as all that, because once tilted back, the armrests are no longer useful at all.
So it’s an ergonomic flaw, but one that’s tempered by the fact that this chair isn’t really intended for “normal” use!
Otherwise, the armrests are soft yet firm and very, very padded.
And once in the “relaxation” position, with the backrest extended backwards, they become very pleasant, as their slightly “rounded” shape means you can rest on them even when lying down.
Whereas, as a general rule, on other chairs (even more upmarket ones), as the armrests don’t have a “rounded” shape, well…
Once reclined, they’re practically useless.
That’s one thing I really appreciated.
Nevertheless, I think it could have been improved by extending the armrests a little further back, then it would have been perfect!
The other great thing about the OBG77BR is that, although it’s a gaming chair, its look is more of a hybrid between gaming chair and office chair.
So for those who don’t yet feel ready to assume a full gaming look, it will be impeccable.
Especially as it’s available in several colors.
I have the black and red version, but there are also other, more sober versions, such as black and gray, full black, but also blue and black.
Finally, the logo is embroidered at the top of the seat, and I really like these little customization elements.
Especially since the logo tends to be hidden by the neck cushion!
PU leather is good quality, it resists rubbing well, and most of the users whose comments I read were delighted with how long it lasted.
And that’s really important, because there are a lot of pu leather chairs that end up totally cracked or even bleached after a few months of use.
And I’m glad that’s not the case with the OBG77BR.
Pu leather is solid, resistant and soft to the touch (which is also very important for comfort).
Then its advantage over fabric is that if you’re a gamer who tends to eat/drink (and I think you are if you want a chair with a footrest), well…
You’re in for a treat, because pu leather has the great advantage of being very easy to clean.
A quick wipe down and you’re ready to go!
It’s clever of them not to put fabric on the back and seat when you know what this chair will be used for!
Finally, the textile applied to the sides is intended to reduce noise.
And that’s really true, because I had a gaming chair from a major brand, and the bottom of the backrest was touching the seat, and every time I moved it made a huge noise.
So it was smart to put textile on the sides of the chair!
And above all, the textile is tear-resistant, which is also very important given that we don’t usually pay too much attention to the sides of our chairs!
These two cushions are extremely important for your comfort.
The neck cushion should be placed in the hollow of your neck to ensure that your neck remains in a “neutral” position.
Theoretically, this is optional, but given the way LAN and competition gamers bend their necks forward, you’ll probably need one, and…
…a long time before you get back into better habits and posture, because you’re probably in that situation too.
Secondly, the lumbar cushion is indispensable.
If you don’t place it correctly, you won’t be able to sit for long.
Its purpose is to reproduce the S-shape of your spine.
Without it, and especially if you sit so badly that your back is round, I wouldn’t put much stock in your back!
This is crucial when you’re sitting for long periods.
So place it correctly, just above your belt.
The seams are nice and tight, but not too loose either, and above all, very even.
Whether it’s the cushion seams or the chair seams.
I tried poking them a bit with my fingernail to see if I could unhook one, but it held!
Next, the finishing touches are pretty “normal”, i.e. the armrests are plastic, and the back and seat attach with a piece of metal that’s hidden by a Velcro fastener.
These are common features of gaming chairs in this price range, and I’m not shocked by them.
As long as it doesn’t look cheap or fragile, it’s fine!
In terms of sturdiness, the castors are pretty solid (and by the way, you have to go out of your way to break castors, it’s never happened to me yet).
However, as they’re quite small, you’ll have a bit of trouble getting over obstacles like carpets.
So take that into account if you’re in that kind of situation.
Then, in terms of fluidity, I’ve seen better, but it’s about average, especially when you have to put things in context: the chair isn’t expensive.
So you obviously can’t have everything for such a low price.
Nonetheless, just note that they’re fluid, but struggle a bit more than average castors on most surfaces, and especially on the linoleum in my bedroom.
Otherwise, I’m just quibbling because they roll pretty well!
The backrest tilts up to 135° (just as you can see in the photo).
This makes it easy to find a good reclining or sitting position (because you can lock the backrest all the way).
Personally, I rarely use it lying down – as a rule of thumb, I think I must have been at 120° when I used it!
And I mostly use it for reading, watching TV or playing console games, because I really like the footrest aspect included.
It gives you the feeling of having a recliner in your own home, and saves you the hassle of finding a stool that’s the right height for your feet.
So, it’s validated!
There are better reclining chairs that go up to 180°, but it would have been a bit strange to have a footrest with a chair that reclines to 180°?
It would break the concept a bit, I think.
Adjusting the OBG77BR is very easy.
The lever marked “Lock” is used to lock/unlock the backrest.
You can lock it at any angle up to 135°.
The lever marked “Lift” is used to raise/lower the chair.
Finally, simply pull the footrest out from under the chair.
I assembled the Songmics in about ten minutes, as habit helps.
But it’s still very well explained, because the screws are annotated both on the screw pack and on the assembly instructions.
What’s more, the assembly instructions are self-explanatory because they’re so easy to understand…
Just take a look at my photo to see that there’s nothing tricky about it!
I’ve always been keen to offer you a variety of reviews (and not just my own) so that you can have different points of view.
That’s why I’ve once again put together a list of other customer reviews, so that you can diversify your sources of information:
As you can see, the opinions are mostly good, even if, as everywhere, there are some people for whom the chair didn’t measure up!
But at least you can now choose in good conscience!
The Songmics OBG73BRV1 is a very good alternative; it’s identical, but in my opinion better suited to smaller gamers.
It’s also slightly less expensive, but that’s all and the dimensions are the same.
Read my review of the Songmics OBG73BRV1.
The Songmics OBG62B is more suited to PC gaming than console gaming, but otherwise, the settings are similar.
Except that the armrests can be raised and it has a tilt mechanism, but no footrest.
However, the price seems to have gone up quite a bit, so I prefer the OBG77.
Read the Songmics OBG62B review.
And finally, the RCG12W is my favorite of the brand.
It’s hard to find, but it’s great value for money.
The armrests are adjustable in 2D and it has a tilting mechanism as well as a reclining backrest.
For its price, it’s pretty incredible.

If you’re a console gamer looking for a hybrid chair that lets you relax whenever you want…
Look no further, because the OBG77BR is one of those rare gaming chairs with an integrated footrest, high-density foam, padded armrests and a reclining backrest!
And what’s more… Its price is borderline ridiculous.
